South Region Stars' Softball
Softball is an exciting team sport in Special Olympics. Athletes can participate in individual skills, coach pitch, and traditional slow-pitch. The South Region Stars hosts several teams at ability-appropriate levels ranging from beginner to high-level athletes. We look forward to another great season of practices and tournaments beginning in May!
We will begin our 2017 practices on Tuesday, May 9 at Friendly Hills Middle School in Mendota Heights. All players should meet there the first night of practice. Please arrive on time for the start of our practice at 6:00 p.m. SHARP!!!!
Athletes will be assigned to teams and practice locations (Friendly Hills and Garlough Elementary) at this practice and are expected to practice with their teams each week!

It's a Team Sport
- Gold Team *
Very competitive and experienced players (see comment)
- White Team
More recreational play, yet still at a good skill level; working on improving skills through playing games
- Red or Blue Team
More learning needed - coach pitch
Our GOLD Team plays in the South St. Paul Men’s League. There is an additional $25 fee to play with this team, and team members must agree to help with a Fund Raiser Event to help pay the remainder of the South St. Paul Softball League Fee! (This brings the fee for Gold Team members to $50 - $25 for state and $25 for league play.)
- Eligibility: Athletes cannot be allowed to practice or compete unless they have an up-to-date application and physical on file with Special Olympics of Minnesota.
- Check Conflicts: Please add the competition schedule to your calendar so that if you are planning a vacation, you can try to work around these dates. Keep in mind that athletes must compete at the area tournament in order to compete in the state competition.
- Remain on Site: If you are sending an athlete who is a beginner; requires one-on-one attention; or has a behavioral issue, the athlete must be accompanied by a responsible adult who is to remain with the athlete.
- Group Homes: Out of respect for all athletes who want to participant, we ask that you provide us with one Level 1 coach when bringing three or more athletes to practice and competition. We are required to document a specific ratio of athletes to coaches; without that ability, some athletes may not be able to participate.
