Join the South Region Stars

Becoming a South Region Star is fairly simple; however, there is some paperwork to complete. When you become a member of our team, you become a participant in Special Olympics of Minnesota, which has its own requirements, including having a current physical on file.

Complete your application with SOMN (click here)

Athletes on the South Region Stars Team must have an up-to-date application on file with Special Olympics of Minnesota. This application, which requires athletes to have a physical every three years, is required for athletes to both practice with the team and compete.

Read more about the sports by clicking the links to the right.

The sports page will tell you when practices are held and whether it is a team sport (think basketball) or an individual sport (like swimming). You'll also be able to see when the competitions will be held. Keep in mind that to compete at the state tournament, an athlete must first compete at the area tournament. So check this out if you are planning a vacation.

Register to participate if it is open.

SOMN divides the year into four seasons so basketball registration (a winter sport) may not be open in June (a summer sport). Teams are often filled on a first-come first serve basis so it's best to turn in the form early. Fill out the registration form completely as we need accurate information about our athletes, along with up-to-date cell phone numbers, emails, and emergency contacts.

COME TO PRACTICE

Participating in Special Olympics is more than competing. It's about learning new skills, receiving tips on ways to improve, discovering the importance of teamwork, making new friends, and preparing for the big day.

Athletes on the South Region Stars Team who (a) register with Minnesota Special Olympics by filing a Consent Form (which includes a physical every three years); b) attend practices on a regular basis; AND (c) compete in Area 12/State Competitions are entitled to one FREE uniform. The gear will depend on the sport(s) in which the athlete competes.
